The Florida Panthers entered the NHL in 1993-94 as an expansion team alongside the Anaheim Ducks. They were successful out of the gate, setting a then-record for most points in a season by an expansion team (since broken by the Vegas Golden Knights) and missing out on the playoffs by just one place in the Eastern Conference.
After some initial success - which included a run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996 against the Colorado Avalanche - the team fell on hard times. Between 1996 and 2022, the Panthers qualified for the playoffs just seven times and couldn't win a playoff series until beating the Washington Capitals 4-2 in the First Round at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Even in that time, the Panthers had their share of stars. Pavel Bure won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy for being the leading goal scorer in the league in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, while the legendary Jaromir Jarg wore Panthers' colors for three seasons beginning in 2014-15. The lure of Miami certainly helps, and it only felt like a matter of time until the Panthers put their leadership structure into a position where they would be competitive.

Where do the Florida Panthers play?
The Panthers originally played their games at Miami Arena. When the Panthers joined the NHL, the venue was outdated, so Huizenga worked to get a new arena for his franchise. That arena opened in 1998 in the Miami suburb of Sunrise, FL, originally called the National Car Rental Center (then the Office Depot Center, Bank Atlantic Center, and BB&T Center.) The naming rights were purchased in 2023 by a South Florida-based company that renamed the building Amerant Bank Arena.
Are there other events at Amerant Bank Arena?
This is one of the NHL/NBA cities where the two teams don't share an arena. The Panthers are currently the sole tenants of Amerant Bank Arena, though indoor football, ABA basketball, and indoor soccer have shared the facility in the past. A common concert stop, Amerant Bank Arena has hosted Celine Dion, the Backstreet Boys, Iron Maiden, Lady Gaga, and many more.

Which team is the main rival of the Florida Panthers?
This one should be pretty obvious. The main rivalry here is between the only two Florida teams in the NHL, as the Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning have developed a big-time battle for fans, media attention, and money in South Florida.
The 'Battle of Florida' sees two teams that entered the league within 12 months face-off, with Lightning fans mad to this day that the city of Miami was granted a franchise so soon after their NHL debut. The Panthers are yet to beat the Lightning in the playoffs, and the three Stanley Cups (to zero) they own do not make Panthers fans happy.
